Giving Back to Our Community: Sourdough Mentoring

Business mentoring is one of those underrated secret weapons. Once discovered, adds a whole new dimension to your career.

Whether you’re giving or receiving, business mentoring has the potential to change your life for the better.

In the Northern Rivers area, one of the most famous options is Sourdough Business Mentoring.

When our CEO Sonja Ceri started Four Drunk Parrots, one of her key motivators was giving back to the community.

The values of the business are aligned with her own personal goals, so bringing people together is part of the fabric of 4DP.

Mentoring other business and entrepreneurs via the Sourdough Business Pathways Mentoring Program has proven a perfect way to achieve this.

Sonja has been mentoring through Sourdough since September 2019 and loves the opportunity to meet and help other local business owners.

What is Sourdough?

Sourdough Business Pathways is a program governed and managed by Byron Region Community College.

Its purpose is to promote and nurture local businesses and entrepreneurs, providing jobs and community growth through education programs, mentoring and local support.

The Sourdough Business Mentoring program allows you to tap into the experience and skills of the mentors, with a clear focus on your business, vision and goals.

Leverage other business leaders’ expertise to take your business to the next stage, innovate, even develop an exit strategy.

What is the process?

In the case of Sourdough Business Mentoring, the process is flexible depending on the mentee’s business and goals.

Essentially it involves providing a business overview to Sourdough, meeting with a mentor to map out a program, and developing a ‘way forward’.

It could be as simple as a single session, or as involved as a three-month series. The focus is on the business’ vision and goals and achieving a specific outcome through the program.

Sonja has truly enjoyed being a part of the Sourdough mentoring team for 2019 and is looking forward to her continuing involvement in 2020.
